Plastic - Do we Care?

Please protect my trees:
Let the green leaves grow.
All my surface
Screams in anguish,
Trembles, shivers, flooded rivers...
Ice and heat waves
Clear and scour, the once green boughs.

Plastic - chokes our streams and rivers,
Sea shores deep in rubbish thrown,
Bin bags bulging with our debris.
Is this how to treat our land?

Creatures eating, choking, dying...
On this stuff found everywhere.
Whales and sea birds, full of plastic,
Gag and choke.
Do we care?

We, so-called highest of earth’s creatures
Conjured up this shiny stuff,
Use it all the time to package up
Anything which comes to hand.
With no thought of our land...

Our so very fragile planet:
Blue, beautiful , spinning , turning,
Masked by clouds, green grass, seas.
From the icy polar region
To palm-fringed shores, desert breeze.

Plastic now is everywhere, do we care?
Are we now too late to try and stop this plastic lake
Before it wraps all nature in the stuff?
We have to try and clear it up.
Make it plain – enough, enough.
