The Robin
Follow me, the robin said,
I will show you how to live
In winter when there's snow,
I will show you where to go,
and how to find food to eat.
With a flutter of his wings,
He hopped from branch to twig.
C’mon, he chirped, follow me!
I have no feathers, I can’t fly.
I don’t know how to climb a tree,
nor can I survive outside,
nor digest the food you eat.
The robin looked down on me,
his bright eye focused on my face.
A drop of rain slipped off a leaf
onto the ground, close by my feet.
And in that moment I perceived
the robin pitied the human being.
